F&ME’s Managing Director Mike Downey is the deputy Chairman of the European Film Academy. This is an article he wrote on behalf of the board of the Academy for Open Democracy on 17th February 2015. It was written to help raise awareness and draw attention to Oleg Sentsov, a Ukrainian filmmaker accused of terroism and currently being detained in prison whilst he awaits trial in April this year.

The South African/UK-based trio screen Breathe-Umphefumlo in Official selection Berlinale Special tomorrow

Cape Town-based Isango Ensemble and Advantage Entertainment have joined forces once again with London’s Film and Music Entertainment on a brand new project, as well as a development slate for further films. The news comes hard on the heels of the announcement last week that Fortissimo Films have taken on international sales for their most recent co-venture Breathe-Umphefumlo an adaptation of Puccini’s La Boheme, which has its world premiere in Official Selection - Berlinale Special tomorrow.

The screening took place on Thursday 22 January at the BFI Southbank’s NFT1, and was the UK Premiere for the film starring Matthew Macfadyen (Pride and Prejudice, Ripper Street), MyAnna Buring (Twilight, Kill List) and Noah Taylor (Submarine, Charlie and the Chocolate Factory).

We’re very please to announce that our partnership with the Isango in Cape Town on LA BOHEME - UMPHEFUMLO has been selected in Official Selection - BERLINALE SPECIAL - the main programme for "extraordinary productions...honouring great cinema personalities..films by or about outstanding persons of film whom the festival feels especially attached to".

Film and Music Entertainment's co-production with Georgia's 20 Steps and Germany's Herzog und Bruemmer Filmproduktion has picked up a hat trick of awards at a series of Autumn festivals.

First off it won the prestigious Grand Prix (Golden Hugo) at the Chicago International Film Festival, as well as the Audience Award in Beirut and the Audience award in Tokyo.

South Africa’s Isango Company Pact with Advantage,  F&ME and Propeller and  Begin Shooting A filmed version of Puccini’s La Boheme entitled BREATHE – Umphefumlo

Shooting began in Stellenbosch yesterday on the Isango Company’s version of Puccini’s La Boheme: BREATHE - Umphefumlo, adapted for the screen by Pauline Malefane and Mark Dornford May, under the musical direction of Malefane and Mandisi Dyantis. Isango’s Dornford May produces with Vlokkie Gordon of Advantage Entertainment. The film is a partnership between Isango Advantage, and the UK’s Film and Music Entertainment (F&ME) and Germany’s Propeller Film.
