Synopsis: A Literary Conference on The Detective Novel is being held in an obscure Bulgarian Black Town Sea, Bistronia, in 1989. Perestroika and Glasnost loom, the Berlin Wall crumbles and these world changing events filter through even to Bulgarian ministerial minds. The Government, wearing its newly borrowed Liberal clothes, sniffs an opportunity to use the conference to showcase its commitment to Western European values, on a world stage. The Minister of Culture, Igor Trofimov, is there for the keynote speech. A former Chief of Police, Igor dreams of the day when he can get his old job back. When the great author Norman Nailer is murdered and his manuscript lost without trace, Trofimov is promised his job back if he can solve the murder satisfactorily, i.e.: nail someone who everyone can hate and who will not be an embarrassment to the government. With two of his main suspects found dead and nasty little secrets about so many of the conference delegates emerging during the investigation, even Igor is shocked. Who did it? Whodunnit! A Gosford Park for the Cold War.
