Netherlands - based production house Springfilm and London production house Film and Music Entertainment have signed up German international sales agent Media Luna to handle worldwide distribution of their latest international feature film "Lilet Never Happened" by Dutch director and producer Jacco Groen.
"From the beginning there was a small group of people who always believed in Lilet Never Happened. We all were convinced that Lilet and her heart-wrenching story had to be told. We are happy to see that there is now international belief in the movie" says Groen.
Lilet Never Happened is a character driven story about a 12 year old Philippine-American girl struggling to survive in the streets of Manila. Social worker Claire (played by Dutch actress Johanna Ter Steege) tries to save her - but this hard headed, traumatized girl thinks she can take her life in her own hands. The film is based on interviews with Lilet, a little girl, who became one of Manila’s most famous child prostitutes.
"Jacco Groen has such a sensitive and unique approach for these social issues, without falling into clichés and stereotypes, allowing the audience a view in a world under a quite special angle", says Ida Martins, managing director of Media Luna.
Lilet Never Happened is produced by Springfilm (in co-operation with 24FPS) and in co-production with Film and Music Entertainment, Witsenburg Film & More, JaJa Film Productions. The movie is supported by the NCDO, Terre des Hommes, the Dutch Ministry of Socal Welfare and Employment and the Dutch Embassy in Manila.
